Graphic with WCRAS Mascot Says Dog Lovers Ask About Our Best Match Program

Finding a dog to join your family is such an exciting time!

And, by choosing a shelter dog, you are literally saving a life. What could make this even better? A simple way to make this all happen. That’s where WCRAS’ Best Match program comes in. We show you all our available candidates, invite you to chat with a care-taker, meet your potential matches in person or virtually, and then help you through the paperwork.

Using the Best Match system focuses on compatibility between you and our dogs. We know you want to meet a match that’s for keeps!

Shelter kennels are scary, stressful places – not a great setting for a first meet up! Let us help you create a meeting for the memory books.

QUICK MATCHES

Use our lists below to see some of the dogs we've identified as having characteristics that we are frequently asked about. This list is not complete but a good way to start your search for your Best Match.

Our listings of Quick Matches is not automated, so please double-check availability by clicking on the dog's picture. If a new page opens with the dog's photo and information, he or she is still available for adoption.

OUT-OF-AREA ADOPTIONS

Do we have the dog of your dreams? Don’t live in the area? Not a problem! You can still go through the Best Match System! All out-of-state adoptions are $75. We will help you organize transport to your location. Depending on transport style and location, transport fees may vary between free (carpool with your family) and $500+ (airplane ride to their new home). We will work with you to help meet your transport needs. Adopter will be responsible for transportation fees. And, your new dog will be responsible for unconditional love.

ABOUT THE BEST MATCH SYSTEM

The Best Match System began organically as we were learning how to function during the pandemic. The lowered stress levels in the dogs was extremely noticeable when using this method. Plus, dogs were given more opportunity to use choice, practice relaxation, and take part in positive social interaction, which are values we uphold. Then, we began seeing the data proving our compatibility model for adoptions was working and we knew we had stumbled upon a way that dogs have the opportunity to give a glimpse of who they truly are to their potential adopters. While we are still developing this adoption approach, we are hopeful we are creating a process that values the adopter and their needs as well as the dog and their needs.
