starCommunity Service

Court Ordered Community Service

If you need to complete Court Ordered Community Service, you may do so without attending Volunteer Orientation. Those serving Community Service must be 18 or older, unless accompanied by an adult.

1. One your first day, let the front staff know you are there to do community service. They will help get you started!
2. Bring in your form! We are not responsible to keep track of your completed hours.
3. Those completing their community service do not work with animals directly, but they do help care for them indirectly.
4. If you are interested in working with the animals, you may apply to the volunteer program after completing all of your hours.

starGroup Projects

If your organization would like to do a group project, please consider us! Big projects that we currently need help funding and producing are:

  • canopies for our dog play yards
  • benches for our dog play yards
  • purchasing and planting trees for our dog play yards
  • creating a gravel pathway
  • power washing and sealing the concrete in the dog Sally Port
  • power wash the cat Sally Port
  • break down and clean out one of our smaller kennel rooms

Please email mvalenta@wilco.org for more information about these projects.

Too young to volunteer? That doesn't mean you can't help the animals! Take a look at these projects!

Check out the great "Adopt Me" dog vests that our volunteer Girl Scout Micaela made for our shelter dogs.  We hope other volunteers will make them too!   If you go to her website to the sewing instructions section there are complete step by step instructions with photos!

Organize a donation drive! You can collect all the things the animals need while they are in the shelter. You can get your school or favorite organization to help as well! Download our donation list here:

Get crafty! The shelter is always in need of fleece blankets or cloth covers for kennel doors and dog crates.

You can find even more projects to help the animals of the shelter here:

Or, how about a car wash? Watch how one person made a difference for the animals of Austin. You could do this too!
