**The shelter may still have Moose listed by his old name, Flopsy, so ask for him by both names!*** Moose is a FANTASTIC dog. He did a great job for his handler in class and was always willing to work with him and try to figure out what he wanted. Moose is very friendly and loyal. I (the program director) kept him in my office for a day and I have to say, he is about perfect! He was very playful with the other dog in the room but after a little bit of playing, or when the other dog was in his kennel, Moose was quiet and calm as could be and just laid on the floor unless we called him over for petting. He even put himself in this TINY little crate he had to fold himself into a pretzel to fit in over and over! It was hilarious!
He did not have any accidents and went potty outside whenever we took him out so he is probably housetrained. He even squats instead of hiking his leg to pee! We took him to a class full of middle school kids and he was great with them! Loves attention and just laid quietly at his handler's feet the whole class. He also learned tricks in class like sit, tunnel, jumps, shake (his favorite!), stay, and more! He loves treats, likes toys, and was even smart enough to hit the water bowl with his paw to tell us he was thirsty! Moose pulled on the leash at class but when I had him away from the stress of the shelter today, it didn't take him long before he was walking nicely on leash for me. This dog is the PERFECT companion! Oh, and did I mention he rides perfectly in the car and is great for baths??? This dog is just waiting to be someone's perfect best friend or a great companion for some lucky family.
Moose would be fine in a house or an apartment but definitely needs to live in the house with his owners. Seems like he'd be great with kids and has been good with other dogs but doesn't seem like he'd be good with cats.
From his handler: "Moose is a playful and conservative dog. He enjoys athletic activities like running and doing other fun activities.
Best things about Moose - He has a good way of seeing things other dogs dont notice. When he feels he cant get something done, he'll try 110 percent before he gives up. A good dog if you're looking for a 'good' dog that will cheer you up and enlighten your mood.
'Kinda' bad things about Moose - Sometimes he can be a little lazy when you want him to be energetic.
Other good things about Moose - He is a very good dog. Progressed in learning his commands - Sit, lay down, spin, and following his name.
He's a good dog just looking for a good home as I would say. Thank you."
