Expansion Facts

The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is the only shelter solely devoted to the lost and abandoned animals of Round Rock, Cedar Park, Hutto, Leander, and Williamson County Current Animal Shelter:

  • The existing 15,000 square foot animal shelter opened March 14, 2007Render of the expansion
  • 85 kennels for canines and 93 feline habitats
  • The building was designed by Connolly Architects, Inc. and constructed by FT Woods Construction
Expansion Highlights:
  • January 2018 with completion anticipated Spring 2019
  • New 16,970 square foot 2-story addition features a public lobby, administration offices, 64 new canine kennels (149 total), 93 new feline kennels (186 total) to include 2 cat colony rooms, a new parking area and an exercise yard for dogs
  • Renovations to the facility include a new surgery area and surgical prep rooms, A/C and plumbing repairs to 35 existing canine kennels, a feline isolation area, and a laundry area with cleanup station
Construction Notes:
  • The expansion project was designed by Jackson & Ryan Architects with construction by Vaughn Construction for a guaranteed maximum price of $9,499,295
  • The existing shelter will remain open during the expansion
  • Approximately 7 months construction time will be saved by moving the canine portion of the shelter to the show barn in San Gabriel Park in late Spring 2018- the temporary location will be staffed, providing for adoptions at this location
