Elf has been a laid-back, affectionate, smart dog.  He enjoyed hiking and running at the park and hanging out near the water.  Elf learns new things very quickly and has been very well-behaved in class.  He knows sit, down, stay, come, shake, and he is AWESOME at play dead.  It's his favorite trick!  He was also learning to go in a crate, leave it, roll over, go through tunnels and over jumps, and more!  He loves treats and attention.

Elf walks nicely on a leash after a few minutes out of the kennel, is very good for baths, and rides well in the car.  He is VERY gentle with people and likes to be petted, including belly rubs!  He has been great with his Kids-N-K9s dog friends when they are put in the big exercise yard to play or on a hike playing at the water, but he is protective of his food towards other dogs (not people!) and does sometimes puff himself up towards other strange dogs if he is behind a fence or he is on leash.

Elf is probably a low to medium energy level dog, meaning he is happy to go for a walk or jog but he seems just as happy to lay around and relax.  He would do fine in an apartment or a house as long as he got a chance to go for walks, but he must be allowed in the house with his family and might be best as an only dog.  This great boy is a nice, medium-size, very loyal and affectionate, and will be the perfect dog for a lucky person or family!

From his handler:  "My dog's name is Elf.  He is a little over 3 years old and is a fantastic dog.  Elf is excited and playful a lot, but he can be one of the calmest dogs ever.  All-in-all, he is a delightful dog to be around.

Elf is extremely smart.  Whenever I am teaching him something new, he catches on quickly.  He is a great playmate, although he is camera shy and doesn't really like toys.  He seems to be more of a foot rest dog, a dog that lies next to your feet or chair while you're watching TV.  Elf likes to be petted on his side and chest, not his head so much.  I'm pretty sure he is housetrained considering his age, but he does use the restroom when he gets out of the kennel.

Elf would probably rather be in an open yard than an apartment considering the kennel situation.  I'm sure he would do great in a nice family with a calm home.  Elf is active and loves to play, but he is an all around mellow dog.  And that's basically Elf.  I thank the lucky person who adopts him."

Kids-N-K9s dogs may be adopted at any time during the program on a first come, first serve basis but may not go home permanently until graduation night.  We do not have class on the weekends and encourage adopters to take their dogs home during that time, though they must be returned before 3:00pm Monday afternoon for class.

Potential adopters must come to the shelter during regular business hours to complete an adoption application.  Phone adoptions are also available with special approval for long-distance adoptions.

Adoption fees range from $25-$75 and includes spaying/neutering, shots, a microchip, and a heartworm test.  All we ask is that you send your success stories to us to share with your dog's handler!
